Eating Clean Through the Holidays

Even though it may be your favorite time of year for holiday treats and heavy foods, that doesn’t mean you have to forget about your goals. One thing I always make sure to do during the holiday season is keep a clean diet when I can and enjoy a few things here and there so I’m not “missing out”. I will always prep my meals for the work week, whether I’m getting ready for a show or not, prepping my meals just makes sense to me. It saves me time, money, and energy throughout the week. I usually try to stick to 2 cheat meals a week, and instead of having them whenever I want I try to use them for the weekends when I know I might go out to eat with family or friends, or have a holiday party to attend. However, eating out or at a party doesn’t always have to ruin your diet! I always steer towards a vegetable platter or salads first, then a protein source and lastly carbs and fats. Also, try to keep things simple, when there is food you have to eat that you did not prepare yourself, most likely they were cooked with a lot more fats, salt or sugar than how you prepare them at home. So try to add sauces, gravy, or dressings yourself if possible or ask for them on the side, so you can gauge how much you’re actually consuming.
